Chesapeake Figure Skating Club Board Meeting
April 11, 2006 at Ice World
Meeting called to order: 6:37 p.m.
In Attendance: Brenda Amrhein, April Dickerson, George Kropp, Linda Gettier, Natalie Blagowidow, and Molly Gallagher.
Approval of Meeting Minutes: Natalie moved that the minutes for March 14, 2006 be approved. Linda seconded the motion.
Youth Committee Report: Molly reported that the Youth Committee is helping with recruiting for the Club. She showed the Board a poster of recruiting events. She showed the Board a brochure about the Club that the committee will hand out after group lessons. She showed the Board signs that will be put on doors. She said that the committee needs a few more skaters to help with recruiting. Recruiting events will be Tuesdays from 5:15-6:15 and Saturdays from 8:45-10:15 and 9:45-11:15. Jerry said he will check with other clubs to see if they have Youth committees.
Treasurer’s Report: Current balance is $2,012.71. Linda reported that she had made two deposits from the Log Cabin fundraiser. She has paid the ice bill for the Spring Show.
Secretary’s Report: No membership report as Susan was not present.
Fundraising Committee Report: April reported that we had a $579.67 profit from the Log Cabin candy. That was with 13 members participating.
Carnival Committee Report: April reported that the newsletter will be mailed on May 1, 2006 along with the Election Ballots and Membership Renewal packets. The June 10, 2006 bring a friend party will be held from 7-9 p.m. It will advertised in the newsletter. A poster will be hung in the marquee in May. Entrance is free, but each family must donate a food item to share. A sign-up sheet will be hung on the bulletin board. Skate rental will be $3.00 which will be turned in after the party. The Club is providing hot chocolate, dip, ice and paper goods. Cost will include two hours ice rental, dip and ice. During the party there will be a used skating apparel sale. The sale will be advertised in the newsletter. Members will be responsible for their own items at the sale. An awards ceremony and annual membership meeting will take place on June 10, 2006 at 6:00. Certificates will be awarded to all Club members and volunteers. Recognition will be given for leadership, Youth Committee, volunteers, test sessions, Spring Show, Club Ice and years of membership. The Spring Show will take place on April 29, 2006 at 2:00. Doors will open at 1:30. Skaters must arrive by 1:15 and be lined up by 1:30. Ice Magic, Italian charms and video sales are confirmed as vendors at the show. The Club has tables for stuffed animals/roses, license plate holders, water and raffle tickets. The Board approved the synchronized skating team’s request to show their video. The Club will provide $350.00 for petty cash for cash boxes. One hundred chairs have been rented. The skater’s trophies have arrived. Michelle Dumler and Krysta Watts will lead the finale. Twenty-four tickets have been sold. The last sale of raffle tickets will take place during intermission. Volunteers will be given tickets to the show.
Adult Skaters Committee Report: Linda reported that Lee Jones and Andrea Cooper placed second at Adult Nationals. Heather Piepenburg placed 5th at Adult Nationals. Claire Schretlen is still searching for a partner. Attendance at Adult Nationals has blossomed.
Test Committee Report: Fees have been raised by $5.00. New applications have been posted in the lobby. Jerry has Pat Cahill as a judge and will get more. April had a sign up sheet. Linda will check to see if October 20, 2006 conflicts with Regionals. If there is a conflict with Regionals, then the next test session will be November 7, 2006.
Publicity Committee Report: Jerry reported that HCC has been booked. April had fliers for the Spring Show.
Unfinished Business: No new discussion on logo. Still working on jackets. Jerry asked if there had been any new discussion of a Club event at an amusement park.
New Business: Linda reported that she paid the $10.00 fee to register the Club for the Independence Day parade. She will request the Club travel with the Zamboni that the rink will have in the parade. Members in the parade should wear competition dress and bring flags. Linda received a membership application from Sam Ketterman. April is working on the script for the awards ceremony. A copy of the treasurer’s report and Club jacket information will be handed out at the General Meeting. Jerry recognized those who were involved in the Basic Skills competition.
